People relocate to other parts of the country (or other countries altogether) for various reasons, including job transfers, mission work, military move or relocating because they want to experience another place and culture.
Whatever the reason for the move, many people are in need of a way to transport their vehicle to their new home. To assure that your car is transported properly, safely and by a reputable company, you should consider the transportation choices below:
• Cargo Container – If you are moving overseas, then you have no other choice but using a cargo container to ship it to your new location. Most of these containers range from 20 to 40 feet in length. Just make sure your vehicle is road legal in your new country!
•Open Air Truck – This option is by far the most popular. Your car would be placed on an open air truck similar to the ones you see on the interstate hauling new vehicles to a car dealership. Most of the time, shipping on an open air truck will take anywhere from 7 to 21 days.
• Enclosed Truck – This is a great option if you own a very expensive car or are transporting your vehicle during periods of bad weather and want to make certain your car is protected. It will cost you approximately 60% more than using an open air truck, but it may be well worth the peace of mind.
• Hiring an Individual – This is most likely the cheapest option, but can also be high risk. If you do hire an individual, make certain they are responsible, have a good driving record and that insurance will cover them if an accident were to occur.
• Driving Service – A driving services is a good option if you are comfortable with putting all the extra miles on your car. Some of these companies will allow you to place your belongings in the car as well as transport pets.
Whatever choice you make, always do your research. Check for insurance, reputation, references and the Better Business Bureau. Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. Entrusting your car to another company or person can be stressful, so doing your homework before making a decision is necessary.
