When you’re looking to buy a car, test driving the vehicle in question is always recommended to get a good idea of how the car normally drives. And salespeople are usually happy to tag along and answer your questions as you drive a couple blocks, or even hop on the freeway to see how it behaves at high speeds. Then it’s back to the dealership. Just as routine as can be…
Except when it’s NOT!
Every once in awhile, something downright crazy happens while on a test drive.
Keep reading to hear about a few of the unfortunate (and sometimes hilarious) situations that salespeople have found themselves in during a test drive.
The Test Drive Chronicles
Midway through a test drive, a customer pulls over and asks to swap seats with the salesperson so that he can experience the car from the passenger seat. As they are about to drive away, he jumps out and says he feels too sick to go on.
Turns out he just needed a ride into town.
The Mercedes Job
A couple wanted to test drive an S500 Mercedes, so the salesperson let them take the car out alone. When the couple returned the car, they said that the “check engine” light had come on and that they were no longer interested, and left.
In turns out, the couple had removed $2,500 worth of parts to fix their own S500 at a repair shop not far from the dealership.
While a customer was test driving a car at a pretty fast speed, the hood flew open and smashed into the windshield, completely blocking their vision. Thankfully, they were able to safely pull to the side of the road.
Come to find out, the customer had taken a peek at the engine before the test drive and didn’t latch the hood closed properly.
