There’s a time and place for everything, including off-roading. A California driver learned this lesson the hard way when they took their Jeep on a bike trail. The adventurer took their vehicle on what looks like the West Ridge Trail outside of Loma Linda intended for 2 wheels at a time, not 4 plus a 2-ton body.
The abandoned vehicle was spotted hanging off the edge of the cliff in the middle of the path, where the driver decided to leave the vehicle behind.
Bike paths don’t make good trails for off-roading vehicles, so we recommend driving on these top Missouri trails instead.
Potawatomi Camp and Off-Road Park (Fulton, MO)
Potawatomi is just an hour and a half from Sedalia, and it’s almost a straight shot driving there if you follow US-50 E and US-54 E to Fulton. This makes it perfect for a day trip with friends and family who enjoy the outdoors.
This is a popular park among locals and visitors alike, featuring hills, rocky terrain and forests for ATV riders and Jeep drivers. The terrain here is considered very rough, but if you’re still looking to enjoy nature’s beauty, the park has plenty of bypasses you can take. There’s also a campsite if you want to stay for longer than just a day. It’s open all year round, so you can enjoy it any time you want.
Finger Lakes State Park (Columbia, MO)
Designed specifically with off-roaders in mind, and only an hour from Sedalia, the Finger Lakes is a hot spot that was once coal mining land and has over 70 miles of trails for you and your friends. Experienced off-roaders will find challenging trails with steep hills and deep ravines for dirt bikes, four-wheelers and UTVs.
To get there, you’ll take US-65 N to I-70 E and follow it until you reach exit 127 MO-763 N/Rangeline St. in Columbia. Stay on MO-763 N for 7.8 miles then take Peabody Rd. to the Finger Lakes!
Cloud 9 Ranch (Caulfield, MO)
This ultimate destination for off-roaders is a bigger time commitment for folks who live in Sedalia but trust us when we say it’s worth every mile. There’s fishing, camping, family fun and, best of all, over 150 miles of pure off-roading trails to explore and enjoy at Cloud 9 Ranch in Caulfield. The scenery boasts waterfalls, green hills, forests, meadows, streams and everything else outdoor lovers could want.
Membership is required or you can also be invited by an existing member. As an off-roader’s paradise that can’t be beaten, it makes the ranch the perfect vacation spot. It’s about a 4-hour drive, so we recommend packing up the car to stay the night.
After you pick up your morning coffee from the gas station, take US-65 S and follow it for 117 miles to State HWY Z in Green Hill Township. Eventually, you’ll come to MO-5 S which you’ll take until you reach US-160 in Gainesville. Turn left onto US 160 E and drive to Atv Trail in Pottersville. Your new favorite off-roading destination will be on your right!
