On April 4th, a beautiful spring day, the town of Sedalia, Missouri held their 25th annual D.A.R.E car show, raising a grand total of $10,922 for local drug abstinence and prevention among student.
For those who may not be aware, the D.A.R.E program – which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education – aims to teach students “good decision making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives.”
D.A.R.E. has elementary and middle school programs all over the country. The content in the curriculums they use are based on results of long term research studies on the origins of drug abuse behavior and the concepts of drug abuse prevention.
As far as the Sedalia event, there were over 120 vehicles registered – an excellent turn out. As was advertised, “If you race it, ride it or just enjoy showing it off, come register!” The community certainly listened and brought some great cars to this worthy fundraiser.
The steady crowd voted on their favorite cars by placing a penny in the appropriate jar. There was also a silent auction. Later in the day, Bob Hiller, promoter of the annual show, was honored with a mayoral proclamation by Sedalia Mayor Stephen J. Galliher.
Overall, it was a fun day of hamburgers and hotdogs, sunshine and amazing classic cars! Check out some of the winning cars by browsing through the photos taken by Sedalia Weekly Observer.
