It’s official, Super Bowl LIII is a wrap!
The game, which kicked off on Sunday, February 3, pitted the New England Patriots against the Los Angeles Rams. Much to many viewers’ dismay, it was the lowest-scoring game in Super Bowl history. But in the end, the Patriots came out on top (again), claiming their sixth title in 18 seasons in a 13-3 win.
While the game itself may not have been action-packed, the commercials were out in full force, offering a little bit of everything.
Here at Bryant Motors, we’re a bit partial to the car commercials, naturally. So here’s a rundown of our favorite auto commercials that ran during Super Bowl 2019.
Audi – “Cashew”
Audi wants you to know that it doesn’t take a near-death experience for you to experience the car of your dreams. The commercial highlights Audi’s newest all-electric concept vehicle, the e-Tron GT. Note that we said “concept.” From the sounds of it, this car won’t be available for a few years. But, hey, we can dream, right? Preferably in a “not-near-death-experience” kind of way, though…
Mercedes-Benz – “Say the Word”
Imagine having the power to control the events in your life by speaking the outcome you want. Mercedes-Benz wants to give the drivers of their 2019 A-Class that same power with a new voice command feature. This Super Bowl commercial features a guy using his voice to do things like destroying a parking ticket, bringing in Ludacris to liven up an opera, and even freeing Willy. At the end it showcases the voice command feature of the vehicle, which gives off a cool “Night Rider” vibe.
Hyundai – “The Elevator”
We think Hyundai had one of the funniest commercials of the night. It features Jason Bateman as an elevator operator, ushering riders to floors representing all kinds of dreadful events that we try to avoid: root canals, jury duty, and of course, car shopping. The commercial showcases Hyundai’s new Shopper Assurance program that makes car shopping easy-breezy. The comedic genius of Bateman, coupled with the relatability factor of these awkward events, easily landed this commercial near the top of several rankings of best Superbowl commercials of 2019.
Toyota – “Toni”
Rooting for the underdog is a great tactic to use in advertising to garner fans, and Toyota did a great job using it in one of their Super Bowl commercials. Besides their hybrid Rav4, the star of the commercial is Toni, a female football player from Detroit who has always been told she was too small, slow, and weak to play football. And in the same way that she overcame these labels to become the female football trailblazer that she is, Toyota wants to debunk the Rav4’s old labels and let you know that it’s better, faster, and more powerful than its previous models.
Toyota – “Wizard”
Did anyone else feel like this commercial was plucked out of their dreams? Who wouldn’t want to race around in a giant pinball machine in a speedy little sports car? Toyota’s commercial for its Supra sports car did a great job of putting us in the driver seat to experience the excitement of driving their new toy. Well played, Toyota…well played.
Kia – “The Great Unknowns”
Kia’s Super Bowl commercial lets us know that you don’t have to be famous to do great things. And one of the great things that they do is manufacture Kia’s new Telluride SUV. The commercial shows the hard work and everyday lives of the people in this rural Georgia town. It lets us know that being in the limelight doesn’t equate with greatness. Special people do special things, even when you don’t know or hear about it.
And that’s another Super Bowl in the books, folks!
